Our client was charged with reckless driving, a Class One misdemeanor. The charge stemmed from an incident in which the road had become congested, and our client, a young male student, accelerated to move away from the congestion.
If convicted on the reckless driving charge, our client could have faced jail time, a fine, and suspension of his driver’s license. He contacted the Roanoke traffic defense lawyers at Copenhaver, Ellett & Derrico for help with his case.
We reviewed the reckless driving charge and saw this as a case for mitigation. We showed the court the student’s driving record and told the court that the young man had been cordial and compliant with the officer who pulled him over. Additionally, we illustrated that he had not caused any additional safety concerns aside from his speed.
Taking all of this into account, the court reduced the student’s reckless driving charge to a simple speeding ticket for 9 mph over the limit.
Case results depend upon a variety of factors unique to each case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any future case.
