A young high school graduate who was studying to go into the armed forces was charged with abduction and assault and battery on a family member after a dispute with someone else in the household. Our client had a prior reckless driving conviction, but no other criminal history.
The judge presiding over the case in Juvenile and Domestic Court revoked our client’s bond after a preliminary hearing on the abduction charge and a conviction on the assault and battery charge. Roanoke criminal defense attorney Cerid Lugar stepped in to represent our client after the initial hearing. Attorney Lugar appealed the revocation of bond. She scheduled the appeal in the Circuit Court.
Because of the charges against our client, there was a presumption against bond that was cause for concern on the appeal. Also concerning was the fact that the client had already had his bond revoked. However, attorney Lugar was able to obtain information and testimony on the young man’s behalf that may have helped convince the Circuit Court judge to reinstate the bond.
