Criminal case terms begin on the first Friday of February, April, June, October, and December. There’s also an August criminal term that begins the second Friday. All cases are set on term day, and court convenes at 8:30 a.m.
If your felony case has been certified for grand jury or if you’re serving on a grand jury, these are always held on the first day of the criminal term beginning at 9 a.m. Following the grand jury convening, the court clerk reads the criminal docket call with criminal probation reporting to follow at 9:30 a.m.
If you need to request a continuance and you’ve retained an attorney, it’s best to work with him or her to file the request with the court. They offer continuances on a case by case basis. If you have not hired an attorney to represent you, calling the clerk’s office will help clarify the process for requesting one.
